Country Style Magazine - Gourmet Goodies From Stores Across The Country
Visitors to the remote Kimberley region can now take the laid-back, holiday spirit of Broome home with them via Moontide Distillery's craft gins and spirits. The unique flavours in Andrew and Trish Davidson's range are achieved using wild-harvested, culturally significant native botanicals sourced from a local Indigenous business.
In a nod to its historic pearling industry, a popular recent addition to their range, The Pearler's Gin, was created in collaboration with Cygnet Bay Pearls. It uses the mantle of the pearl oyster - a by-product of the final pearl harvested from the mollusc - to create a dry, salty gin balanced by Burdekin plum, lemon myrtle, mint and citrus flavours.
Head distiller Andrew, a retired oncologist, says his previous career put him in good stead to create Moontide Distillery's "feel-good medicines". "The Pearler's Gin reflects the uniqueness of where and who we are," he explains. "We're really proud of the collaboration." A bottle of Moontide's signature White Pearl Gin, coupled with Roebuck Bay Bitters - their take on a classic bitters, with hints of native pepperberry, saltbush and caraway makes a superb Christmas gift for a gin-loving family member or friend.
